Deer Path Park
Deer Path Park is another great spot to visit. Alois and Berta Batz bought their own 122-acre farm in 1952 with the goal of creating a family retreat for everyone to enjoy. ON the farm they built a bathhouse, boathouse and a playground. By 1968, they decided to start the Deer Path Camp for children. They went on to retire from farming and converted their tractor storage sheds into picnic sites and a corncrib into a camp’s office with a nurse’s station.
Parents can send children ages 5 to 13 to camp for $25 a week where they could ride horses, boat, swim, learn archery and tennis and so much more. In 1977 Hunterdon County acquired the park to open it to the public and it was officially opened in 1985 for a variety of recreational opportunities.
Today, the park has a plethora of special events throughout the year at various times. The summer concert series is one of its most popular, but they also hold community festivals and scout events. It is also a popular fishing spot thanks to a 3-acre spring-fed pond that offers anglers a chance to fish for sunfish, catfish, and bass.
